“ In one of my lucid dreams, I had my wish granted, to hug the world.” Claire Wiley paints her lucid dreams; and in many of these dreams is invited to fly and swim with marine animals including sea turtles, sharks, giant fish and dolphins. Through her paintings, Claire conveys the amazing feelings she has during these dreams, feelings of exhilaration and a spiritual connection to these creatures and the universe. Claire is interested in educating people on environmental issues through her art.

For 16 years she was an Imagineer for Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.  She co -founded and led the Imagineering Green Team and became the first Walt Disney World employee to become a LEED AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional.)

Her work has been shown at Miami Art Basel at the Aqua Fair and at galleries in Florida and New York. Her work can be seen at Walt Disney locations and various resorts including Hiltons in NYC, It also sells in State of the Arts Gallery in Sarasota, City Arts Factory in Orlando, The Central Florida Library, Orlando Museum of Art Shop, Cornell Museum Store and West Elm.

Claire’s art is influenced by growing up in Sarasota, Florida and her love for its’ beautiful beaches, waterways and wildlife. Claire’s art focuses on sharing this love, respect and concern for nature, water and animals. She grew up playing and working in her veterinarian father’s animal hospital, helping care for pets and rescued wildlife. Sometimes his practice even included exotic species from the local attraction called, Jungle Gardens, including colorful birds, large cats and reptiles.

One morning in 2001, Claire was sitting quietly looking at her backyard, when suddenly she had an inspirational vision.  She literally saw Rousseaus‘s, “The Dream”, a painting of a jungle and heard the words,” we are one”. Claire took this to mean that she was every person, animal and plant in the painting, in other words we are all connected.

In her art, Claire has been finding unique ways to represent our human connection to the planet and it’s amazing life, hoping that others who feel this interconnectedness become inspired to help save our planet.

In her series, “Is This Love?”, Claire depicts extinct animals flying while holding other animals, who are themselves endangered. She paints these themes in compositions similar to Mark Chagall‘s famous works, of himself flying while holding his wife, Bella. This series explores our relationship with animals and is influenced by the book,” Unlikely Friendships,” by Jennifer S. Holland. In that book, Holland shows photos and describes close, nurturing, life-long, companion relationships between animals of different species, some of which, given different circumstances, would be predator and prey.

There is a hopefulness to Claire‘s work. She wants us to question the way we see our relationship with nature and encourage compassion, conservation and stewardship. Hopefully this happens when we realize we are one; and we each can make a difference in our day-to-day actions.

Claire creates whimsical, colorful and environmentally conscious paintings and commissioned art. She works using red wine, dark chocolate, acrylic, oil, permanent ink & water color.  She likes experimenting in many styles including abstraction and surrealism. C. Wiley enjoys doing commissioned pieces especially for Interior Designers, Art Consultants and the Hospitality industry.
